The daily programme of events will be launched with an epic performance, XI, presented by Cheatahs throughout the space. Paying homage to Ryhs Chatham’s Guitar Trio and the No Wave movement, “XI” is a one off avant-garde work for 11 guitars. Taking a guitar drone in the key of D as a starting point, the 11 players – made up of members of Cheatahs and fellow London bands Mazes, Male Bonding, Great Ytene, Novella and Omi Palone – will each take it in turn to improvise and explore tonal possibilities within the drone.

Sky Larkin Announce New Single + UK Shows

Newsworthy Packshot

Leeds’ Sky Larkin have announced details of their new single, Newsworthy’ The track, taken from their third album Motto, is to be released on December 9th through Wichita Recordings. The release will be backed by a new track, Parapet and available digitally. Orders via the band’s website and also the Wichita Recordings shop will receive a specially-curated Newsworthy newspaper, created and edited by the band.

In the words of singer and guitarist Katie Harkin, “the scale of the disembodied digital world can numb us into passive awe, but it doesn’t have to be like that. Keep it newsworthy; it helps. I’ve always wanted our records to be immediate at their most accessible, and at their most expansive, inhabitable. This sense of a vast but private scale is what I was chasing whilst mapping the ebbs and flows of this song. While the avenues for communication continue to multiply, it’s the duty of the craftsman not the tools to keep ourselves actively engaged.”

The release co-incides with new shows for the band; they will be joining The Wedding Present for a show to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the legendary Brudenell Social Club in Leeds, their home city. Sky Larkin also play with Yuck and Dutch Uncles as part of the All Years Leaving Event in Birmingham this month.

Cheatahs Announce Debut Album Release

WEBB415_Cheatahs_Cheatahs_PS

Cheatahs have announced they will release their self-titled debut album on 10th February 2014.  The long-awaited album is first and foremost an exploration of the possibilities of modern guitar music. A blend of ecstatic noise, ambient drone and visceral, ear-splitting alt-rock, combined with lyrics that touch on the complexities of relationships, nature, the city, memory, dislocation and self-identity, the self-titled record displays a giant creative leap from the lo-fi fuzz of the band’s first two EPs.

To make the record, Cheatahs, headed first to the country, spending a week in an old stone-floored cottage in Cornwall, where recording was punctuated by walks in nearby forests and evenings whiled away at an isolated pub. The second location, Dropout studios in Camberwell, home of friends Part Chimp, was perhaps the polar opposite, but no less conducive to the creative process – not surprising given that the band were given access to the full arsenal of ridiculously loud vintage amps that help create the brutal majesty of Part Chimp’s recordings. As with Cheatahs’ previous work, all tracks were recorded and mixed by bassist Dean and produced by the band.

The album is available to pre-order now on CD, LP and digital download on the Wichita store.
