We are very excited to announce we will be releasing the debut album from Spectrals. The album is entitled Bad Penny and was recorded with Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Hood) in early 2011. The album mixes ingredients of pop, soul, doo wop, and a garage rock ballad, it sounds vintage but current, while the Yorkshire lilt in his voice (a result of his hometown, Heckmondwike) places him firmly in the UK, rather than Detroit. It is inspired by the music he grew up listening to as a child, from the Rolling Stones (the only CD’s his mum ever has in her car) to The Style Council, Elvis Costello and The Ronettes, it’s all “just about love really”.
All eleven tacks are new songs – not heard on his previous tapes, 7″s or EP. The first single to be taken from the album will be Get A Grip – which will be available on 7″ and download on 10th October.
The release of the album will be celebrated with a gig at Kings Cross Water Rats on 17th October and more live dates will be announced soon.
